A protest broke out in Gazipur’s Bhogra Bypass area after the death of a female worker at a garment factory, with workers blocking the highway, vandalizing property, and setting vehicles on fire. The situation was brought under control by the army and police.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, workers from Panorama Apparels Limited took to the streets in protest after the death of 30-year-old Asma Akter Laboni. Laboni had fallen ill while working and requested sick leave, but when it was denied, her condition worsened. She was later taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College in Gazipur, where she was declared dead. However, factory authorities and police claimed Laboni died after jumping from the building’s rooftop in what they suspect to be a suicide.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that in response to her death, workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, burning tires and halting traffic. By 9:30 a.m., they had vandalized the factory, breaking the gate and setting fire to two private cars and two motorcycles. The army, along with local and industrial police, arrived to control the situation, though the highway remains closed.
