Paris Saint-Germain delivered a performance for the ages, routing Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday to claim their maiden European crown and complete a historic treble.
At Munich’s Allianz Arena, PSG made history with the largest margin of victory ever seen in a Champions League final, lifting the trophy for the first time in the club’s history and becoming only the second French side after Marseille (1993) to conquer Europe.
The night began with right-back Achraf Hakimi opening the scoring in the 12th minute against his former side. Then 19-year-old Désiré Doué stole the show, netting twice and becoming the first teenager since the legendary Eusébio in 1962 to score a brace in a European Cup final.
Late strikes from Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu sealed an unforgettable 5-0 win for the French champions, who had already wrapped up the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles.
The triumph was particularly poetic, as it came just one season after superstar Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Real Madrid. After years of big-name signings such as Messi, Neymar, and Ibrahimović failing to deliver continental success, PSG’s shift toward youth under head coach Luis Enrique has finally paid off.
Luis Enrique, who won his second Champions League title after his 2015 triumph with Barcelona, was hailed as the architect of PSG’s transformation. “We have made history,” Hakimi said. “Luis Enrique turned us into a family. He deserves this more than anyone.”
The same Allianz Arena had hosted PSG’s painful loss to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, played behind closed doors due to the pandemic. This time, thousands of jubilant fans witnessed the crowning moment live.
Club captain Marquinhos dedicated the win to former teammates and long-time supporters: “This is for everyone who stood by us. We finally did it. This is the best day of my life.”
PSG’s five-goal margin surpassed all previous records in Champions League final history, including the 4-0 victories by AC Milan (1989, 1994) and Bayern Munich (1974).
PSG’s Historic Treble 2025:
- Ligue 1 Champions
- Coupe de France Winners
- UEFA Champions League Champions
It was a night of dominance, youth, redemption — and history made in Parisian blue.
