Bangladesh does not consider India’s recent push-in of undocumented nationals a provocation and remains committed to repatriating Indian citizens through official diplomatic channels, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Choudhury.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday (May 17) after inaugurating the Boyesing Floating Border Observation Post (BOP) in the southwestern Sundarbans region of Satkhira’s Shyamnagar upazila, the adviser clarified Bangladesh’s stance on cross-border movement issues.
“I have spoken with the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka. A letter has been sent to the Indian government, requesting that Bangladeshi nationals be returned through proper diplomatic procedures instead of push-in operations,” said Lt. Gen. Choudhury.
He reiterated that Bangladesh remains firm in using legal and structured processes to return Indian nationals currently in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ashraful Islam Siddique, warned of potential security threats posed by push-in practices. “Forcibly sending people across the border increases the risk of militants and criminals entering the country,” he said. “We are confident in our ability to prevent such threats.”
Both officials emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperation and communication between the two nations to ensure border security and peaceful repatriation processes.
