Qatar Foundation has pledged to enhance sporting facilities for Bangladeshi female athletes, aiming to improve their skills as well as professional growth.

During a meeting on Tuesday in Doha on the sidelines of the Earthna Summit, Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Foundation and sister to the Emir of Qatar, assured full support for the development of women’s sports in Bangladesh. The commitment came during her discussion with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the development to the media. Four national female athletes—two cricketers and two footballers—joined the meeting and shared their journeys, shedding light on their struggles in pursuing a career in sports in Bangladesh.

Sheikha Hind, a former top-level athlete herself, was visibly moved by the stories and praised the determination shown by the athletes. The discussion also highlighted the lack of essential facilities such as dormitories, gyms, and training centers for female athletes.

Sheikha Hind announced that Qatar Foundation would help establish a special foundation in Bangladesh to provide necessary infrastructure and support for women in sports. Professor Yunus welcomed the initiative and requested full support to build dormitories, training fields, medical services, conference halls, and guest accommodations for international visitors. He stated that the foundation would be formed soon.
