The police, along with RAB and other law enforcement agencies, are making relentless efforts to curb crimes such as theft, snatching, robbery. RAB Director General (DG) AKM Shahidur Rahman stated that hundreds of snatchers have been arrested, but they are getting involved in the same snatching activities again after getting bail from the court.
Attracting the attention and making a request to the government lawyers, RAB Director General said that the activities of snatchers in court, the severity of the crimes, along with the amount of unrest they cause in public life, should be highlighted so that the court can make an informed decision regarding bail.
On Saturday (February 22), at 1 AM, he visited the patrol checkpoint at the Jatrabari Toll Plaza in the capital, after the inspection, exchanged views with journalists. It was during this meeting that he made these statements.
Recently, due to the increase in theft, snatching, murder, robbery across the country, to maintain law and order, he inspected the security reinforcement activities conducted by the RAB forces.
RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman stated that crimes such as theft, robbery have increased in various regions of the country, including Dhaka. With RAB’s five battalions in Dhaka and ten battalions outside Dhaka, we are working alongside other law enforcement agencies.
Incidents of snatching, robbery, dacoity have already occurred. A robbery took place on a passenger night bus heading to Rajshahi. There are also allegations of assault on women. In many cases in Dhaka city, mothers, sisters are also falling victim to snatching. We are making relentless efforts to curb these crimes. Several dacoits have been arrested in connection with the robbery on the night bus heading to Rajshahi.
Along with RAB, police and other forces, we have been able to arrest several snatchers. We have arrested Anwar, who is known for cutting off wrists, members of the two groups from Geneva Camp. However, we still have not been able to control the situation of theft and snatching to the level we desire. This is why our efforts continue. We are making arrests based on intelligence activities.
Assuring the citizens of the city and country, the RAB DG said, ‘We will try our best to curb these crimes. In this case, we ask for your full cooperation. If anyone becomes a victim or witnesses such crimes, please file a report with the nearest police station immediately, so that we can start the investigation promptly. If there is any testimony, evidence, or video footage, please send them to us. This way, we can bring the criminals under the law quickly.’
RAB Headquarters has stated that recently, certain criminals, vested interest groups are attempting to create panic among the public and worsen the law & order situation in the country through attacks, sabotage. In various parts of the country, they are carrying out brutal attacks, assaults on the general public, including theft, snatching, robbery, extortion.
To curb these crimes maintain law and order, RAB forces are conducting operations in different regions of the country in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
All of RAB’s battalions are conducting robust patrolling in their respective areas of responsibility. Additionally, to ensure security in high-risk, important areas, continuous additional patrols are being deployed to carry out these operations.
The battalions are coordinating with other law enforcement agencies through their own control rooms to continuously monitor the security situation in Dhaka and across the country.
In various locations nationwide, security has been strengthened by setting up checkpoints and conducting searches in coordination with other law enforcement agencies. Additionally, RAB’s Bomb Disposal Unit, Dog Squad are kept on standby at all times to respond to any emerging situation.
To address any situation, checkpoints have been established at key points in all metropolitan cities, district towns, upazilas, with sufficient patrols deployed and increased plainclothes intelligence surveillance. Adequate reserve forces are kept on standby in all metropolitan cities, important district towns to respond to any situation.
Additionally, since February 10, through ‘Operation Devil Hunt,’ RAB forces have been conducting operations across various regions of the country, including the capital, to improve the law & order situation by targeting those causing instability, including planners and their accomplices. Operations are being carried out at the metropolitan, district levels to bring them under the law.
From February 10 until now, nearly 200 (180) suspects have been arrested, including 40 from the capital, 25 from Mymensingh, 24 from Rajshahi, 17 from Sylhet, 15 from Narayanganj. RAB has also recovered one one-shot gun with one round of ammunition from Rajshahi, a discarded cocktail-like bomb from Sirajganj. In addition, RAB’s intelligence surveillance, various activities to maintain law & order and prevent any sabotage or violence across the country are ongoing.
