RAB Director General and Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman on Saturday said that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands or disrupt public life through mob violence.
Speaking at a press briefing at the RAB media centre in Dhaka, he stated, “No matter which party the offenders belong to, they will be brought to justice and face strict punishment.”
Referring to the killing of a scrap trader in Old Dhaka, he said RAB is conducting a shadow investigation alongside the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). “Law enforcement agencies are working swiftly to arrest all those involved in crimes,” he said.
The RAB chief highlighted recent cases, including the July 2 mob attack on police in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. “Within 48 hours, three suspects were arrested,” he said. In a separate incident on July 3, RAB arrested six individuals in connection with the triple murder of a mother and her two children in Cumilla’s Muradnagar.
Regarding a bomb hoax at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Shahidur Rahman said a woman falsely claimed there was a bomb on a Dhaka-Kathmandu flight. Security forces, including the Army, conducted a sweep and found nothing. RAB later arrested a man named Emon, his wife Tahmina, and their associate Imran.
“Emon was heading to Kathmandu with his extramarital partner. His wife, acting on a friend’s advice, made the false call to stop him,” the RAB DG said.
He warned that those making false threats or engaging in criminal activity would be held accountable. “RAB will continue operations against such offenders to ensure justice,” he added.
