Widespread outrage has erupted across Bangladesh following a disturbing incident in Muradnagar, Cumilla, where a woman was reportedly raped after intruders broke into her home. A video of the assault, shared widely on Facebook on Saturday night, sparked strong condemnation and calls for justice.
Among those voicing their anger was popular actor Saidur Rahman Pavel, who went live on Facebook to demand the death penalty for the perpetrators. In the emotionally charged 13-minute video, Pavel repeatedly called for the rapists to be executed.
“Hang the rapists. Kill them. They deserve no mercy,” he said, visibly shaken by the incident.
He also addressed the authorities — including the military, current interim leadership, and future political leaders — urging them to take immediate and public action. “Let them be executed in public. Let there be justice that restores faith in humanity,” he added.
Pavel criticized the state of the nation and said the situation was even worse than before the recent political upheaval. “We joined the mass uprising with hope. But now it feels like a mistake. These criminals are more terrifying than any dictator.”
He further appealed to the families of the alleged rapists, saying, “If you believe they are guilty, take justice into your own hands. Keeping such people alive only threatens society further.”
Calling on past and present activists, Pavel asked, “Those who once stood at Shahbagh must now return to the streets. Let this be a public demand: for rapists, the only justice is death.”
The actor concluded the live stream asking for prayers for his mother, who is currently hospitalized and awaiting surgery.
