Dinajpur correspondent: Under the slogan “Establish Land and Human Rights for the Landless,” a colorful rally was organized on Tuesday (April 29) by the District Landless Coordination Council of Dinajpur, with support from the Community Development Association (CDA). Participants, including landless members from all nine upazilas of the district, gathered in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at 10 a.m. The rally marched through the main roads of Dinajpur town and concluded at the Shishu Academy Auditorium.
The event was presided over by Md. Lutfor Rahman, president of the District Landless Coordination Council. The welcome speech was delivered by Alim Al Razi, Deputy Director of CDA, and the keynote address was presented by Shah-E-Mobin Jinnah, Executive Director and Chief Facilitator of CDA.
Zane Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), attended the event as the chief guest. Among the special guests were Sadia Afarni Shefa, District Information Officer; Md. Tariqul Islam, Inspector of the District Cooperative Office; and Md. Badruddoza, Chief Agricultural Engineer of the District Agriculture Office. Youth leader Popi Rani Barman presented the concept paper, while the memorandum was read by Md. Dulal Hossain, General Secretary of the Landless Council.
Speakers at the rally, including leaders from Bochaganj, Chirirbandar, and Sadar upazilas—such as Manik Adhikari, Liton Sarkar, Shahana Begum, Md. Enamul Haque, Swapna Adhikari, Krishna Kora, and Md. Shahidullah—demanded recovery and fair distribution of government khas land from land grabbers, establishment of a land bank, 200-day employment guarantees, and restitution of indigenous property. They also urged an end to corruption and mismanagement in the land administration.
The rally concluded with the submission of an 18-point memorandum to the Prime Advisor through the Deputy Commissioner. The event was coordinated by CDA field organizer Md. Jahedur Rahman and regional coordinator Binoy Kumar Roy.
