The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has claimed to have found evidence of illegal assets worth around Tk 3.36 crore accumulated by former Food Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Md Abdur Razzaque, his wife and son.
The commission has decided to issue separate notices asking them to submit wealth statements immediately, confirmed a source within the anti-graft watchdog on Wednesday.
According to the primary investigation report, Razzaque owns movable and immovable properties worth Tk 6.72 crore.
He was able to show legal sources of income worth Tk 4.77 crore, while Tk 1.94 crore remained as unexplained wealth.
During the investigation, the Awami League leader has failed to provide proper documents against his assets worth Tk 1.36 crore in his income tax returns, said the ACC official.
His wife, Shirin Akhter Banu, was found to have assets worth Tk 3.28 crore, including Tk 2.77 crore in properties and Tk 51 lakh in family expenses.
Legal sources of income could be traced for only Tk 2.37 crore, leaving Tk 90.71 lakh unexplained.
The ACC report mentioned that between the tax years 2008–09 and 2024–25, she declared Tk 38.20 lakh from other sources and Tk 19.98 lakh from securities profits, which were inconsistent with her wealth statement.
His son, Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, was found to own assets worth Tk 1.24 crore, including movable properties. He could show a legal income of only Tk 73.68 lakh, leaving Tk 51.12 lakh as unexplained assets.
The ACC said that the Razzaque family’s assets are not consistent with their known sources of income.
In this context, separate notices will be issued against Abdur Razzaque, his wife and his son under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
Razzaque was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 2001.
He served as the Awami League’s central Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs before becoming Minister of Food and Disaster Management from 2009 to 2012, and later continued as Food Minister until January 2014.
He also chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Finance Ministry and is currently serving as a Presidium Member of the Awami League.
