Three distinguished editors, including Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, were honored for their fearless commitment to journalism amidst adversity at a special ceremony marking the 12th anniversary of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Manarat International University.
Manarat International University recently celebrated the 12th anniversary of its Department of Journalism and Media Studies by honoring three prominent editors for their unwavering dedication to the profession. Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, Editor of Amar Desh, Alamgir Mohiuddin, Editor of Naya Diganta, and Abul Asad, former Editor of Daily Sangram, were recognized for their courage and professionalism.
The awards ceremony took place on Sunday at the National Press Club’s Zahir Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium. The event highlighted the editors’ resilience in the face of political repression and legal challenges under the current ruling regime. Despite attacks and lawsuits, the three editors remained steadfast, continuing their journalistic duties without compromise.
Professor Mohammad Abdur Rob, the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of Manarat International University, presided over the ceremony, while Matiur Rahman Akand, a member of the Manarat Trust, was the chief guest. The event also featured a welcome speech by Rafiqul Zaman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies. Leaders from the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and the Dhaka Union of Journalists were also present to show their support.
