BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused defeated political forces of orchestrating a false report in The New York Times, claiming they are using illicit funds to tarnish Bangladesh’s image.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan, Rizvi alleged that fascist allies, who have amassed billions through unlawful means, are attempting to discredit Bangladesh internationally.

He dismissed claims of rising extremism in the country, stating, “There is no resurgence of extremism in Bangladesh. There is no fascist grip here—people are freely practicing their religion and expressing their opinions. Unlike in the past, citizens can now celebrate Eid in peace.”

Rizvi further accused the Awami League of spreading misinformation globally. “Sheikh Hasina’s so-called counterterrorism operations were nothing but staged drama for political survival. Even a former Inspector General of Police has documented this in his book,” he said.

He went on to claim that Awami League is actively using illicit funds to damage Bangladesh’s international reputation and engaging in subversive activities abroad. Referring to recent police actions, Rizvi said, “Sheikh Hasina ordered the brutal shooting of Mugdha Faiyaz, yet she has shown no remorse.” He alleged that exiled Awami League leaders are fueling instability in the country.

Criticizing government advisors, Rizvi claimed that some individuals are intentionally maligning BNP. “One advisor, who conspired against BNP in 2007, is doing the same again. Meanwhile, in Meherpur, a farmer committed suicide over onion prices, yet these advisors remain silent. If they had dismantled syndicates, farmers would receive fair prices for their produce.”

Addressing road safety concerns, he stated, “In the past two days of Eid, 20 to 25 people have lost their lives on the roads. Had the administration been more proactive, these deaths could have been prevented.” Rizvi stressed the need to restore democratic governance and ensure government accountability, asserting that certain advisors are more focused on defaming BNP than addressing national crises.
