Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has called on authorities to take effective steps to keep Kuakata and Cox’s Bazar beaches clean ahead of the upcoming tourist season.

She made the call while presiding over a budget implementation meeting at the Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Friday (19 July).

To prepare for the peak tourist months of November and December, Rizwana Hasan stressed the need for daily waste collection through local volunteer groups. She also recommended setting up sufficient dustbins in tourist hotspots to promote responsible waste disposal.

“Preparations must begin now to keep tourist destinations clean,” she said, highlighting the need for awareness campaigns to encourage environmentally responsible behavior among visitors.

In addition, the adviser directed officials to intensify anti-polythene drives and increase public engagement to reduce environmental pollution.

On the issue of wildlife conservation, Rizwana Hasan asked the Forest Department to keep elephant corridors free from obstructions. She also recommended planting elephant-friendly trees and removing plant species that elephants tend to avoid, especially in rural areas.

The meeting was attended by Environment Secretary Farhina Ahmed, Director General of the Department of Environment Md Kamruzzaman, and other senior officials.
