The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Wednesday commented that since the Interim Government took office about 15 months ago, garment exports and the growth and stability of the readymade garment (RMG) sector have remained at the centre of policy priorities.
“When massive protests erupted across factories late last year, the government acted swiftly to ensure peace and stability,” he also posed this on his verified Facebook page after a remark of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan.
BGMEA president on Tuesday expressed frustration over the failure to meet Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus despite repeated requests over the past four months to discuss critical issues facing the RMG industry.
“We have been seeking an appointment with the chief adviser for four months but have not received one. Yet, when a vice president from SpaceX’s Starlink, who plans to invest only $100 million, comes, he meets with him. But he doesn’t meet with the representative of a sector worth over $40 billion,” Mahmud told a press conference at the BGMEA headquarters in Dhaka.
After the remarks, the Press Secretary said, “We understand the disappointment expressed by the new BGMEA president, Mahmud Hasan Khan, over not yet receiving an appointment with the Chief Adviser since assuming leadership of the country’s influential trade body.”
