Electricity from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to be connected to Bangladesh’s national grid by December this year, according to Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Adviser to Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, the adviser stated, “The electricity generated from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be possible to supply to the national grid in December this year. The construction of the 2,400 MW nuclear power plant in Rooppur is progressing rapidly.”
Providing updates on recent developments in energy sector, Mahmud also announced that the government has repealed the Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provisions) Act 2010.
“This move is aimed at ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the power sector,” he added.
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, once operational, is set to be Bangladesh’s first nuclear energy facility and a key milestone in the country’s efforts to diversify and modernize its energy sources.
