A warehouse belonging to Indian pharmaceutical company Kusum in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv was struck by a Russian drone on Saturday (April 12), causing significant damage. Ukraine’s embassy in India has accused Russia of deliberately targeting Indian business interests.

According to Indian news outlet NDTV, the warehouse of Kusum, a major Indian pharmaceutical firm operating in Kyiv, was hit during a drone attack reportedly carried out by Russian forces. While Kusum has confirmed the incident, they stated it was a drone, not a missile, that directly struck the facility.

The Ukrainian embassy in India took to social media platform X, stating, “Today (Saturday), a Russian missile hit the warehouse of Indian pharmaceutical company Kusum in Ukraine. Despite Moscow’s claimed friendship with India, they deliberately attacked an Indian business, destroying medicines meant for children and the elderly.”

Kusum, owned by Indian businessman Rajeev Gupta, is one of Ukraine’s largest pharmaceutical firms and plays a critical role in ensuring access to essential medicines across the country.

Adding to the account, Martin Harris, the UK’s Ambassador to Ukraine, also posted on X: “This morning, a Russian drone completely destroyed a major pharmaceutical warehouse in Kyiv, burning stocks of critical medicines for children and the elderly.” He accompanied his post with a photo showing smoke rising from a warehouse-like structure as emergency services stood by.

The incident has drawn strong condemnation, with concerns over the continued targeting of civilian infrastructure and vital supply chains in Ukraine. This strike comes amid intensifying Russian offensives in the Donetsk region, particularly around the key city of Pokrovsk, and increased attacks in Kherson, fueling speculation of a broader spring offensive by Russian forces.

Liberty News’ international correspondent states that while the Ukrainian side maintains the warehouse was struck deliberately as part of a “terrorist campaign” against civilians, Russian authorities have not responded publicly to the claims. The attack further underscores the risks faced by foreign businesses operating in conflict zones and may strain diplomatic ties between Moscow and New Delhi.
