Bangladesh finally ended their long wait for a century opening partnership as Sadman Islam and Anamul Haque Bijoy guided the team to a strong start against Zimbabwe, posting 105 runs without loss in the first session.
After a gap of 32 innings without a century opening stand, Bangladesh’s openers Sadman Islam and Anamul Haque Bijoy delivered a much-needed breakthrough, reaching 105 runs unbeaten by the lunch break against Zimbabwe.
Earlier, Zimbabwe lost their final wicket on the very first ball of the day without adding to their overnight total, leaving Bangladesh to begin their innings immediately. Sadman remained unbeaten on 66, while Anamul Haque Bijoy supported him solidly with 38 runs at the break.
The last time Bangladesh achieved a century opening stand was during the 2022 Chattogram Test against India, where Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan combined for a 124-run partnership.
The early dominance by Bangladesh’s top order offers a promising platform as they aim to build a commanding first-innings lead.
