The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhak has granted permission to interrogate Farzana Rupa, former chief reporter and anchor of Ekattor TV, in connection with the Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case. The interrogation will take place at the prison gate.
On Tuesday (March 11), Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Azizul Haque from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) filed an application before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, seeking permission to interrogate Rupa.
According to the petition, Rupa is currently in jail, and during the 2012 murder of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, she was working as a reporter at ATN Bangla. She had a close personal relationship with Runi and frequently visited her. Additionally, Rupa had covered news reports regarding the murder. Investigators believe she may possess crucial information that could help uncover the mystery behind the high-profile double murder.
After the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate M. A. Azharul Islam granted permission for prison gate interrogation in the interest of a fair investigation.
Case Background:
Sagar Sarowar was a journalist at Maasranga Television, while Meherun Runi worked at ATN Bangla. On February 11, 2012, they were brutally murdered in their rented apartment in Dhaka’s West Rajabazar.
Following the incident, Runi’s brother Nawsher Alam filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The investigation has since changed hands multiple times, and the High Court has ordered the formation of a task force to speed up the probe, currently handled by PBI.

Among them, Tanvir and Palash are out on bail, while the others remain in custody.
