Revolutionary Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque has warned that India risks making a grave miscalculation if it continues to view Bangladesh through Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s lens. Instead of aligning with a specific political party, India should engage directly with the people and the country as a whole, he urged.

Speaking at a human chain organized by Biplobi Jubo Sanghoti in front of the National Press Club to protest Israel’s ongoing attacks in Palestine, Haque criticized India’s recent stance on bilateral issues and warned against treating Bangladesh as a client state.

“If India wants Bangladesh to behave like a submissive state, as seen under fascist regimes, then it must abandon this mindset. Viewing Bangladesh through Hasina’s eyes is a mistake,” he said. “Build relations with the country, not with a particular party.”

Referring to recent developments, he said, “India has unilaterally suspended the transshipment facilities that allowed us to trade with Bhutan and Nepal. No international agreement should be disrupted like this without mutual consent.”

Regarding the Palestinian crisis, Haque stated that the people of Bangladesh have united against Israeli aggression.

“We call on our government to take three actions: first, reinstate the ban on Israel in our passports; second, disclose and immediately ban the Israeli surveillance equipment that has been imported through European companies over the past 15 years; and third, impose a complete boycott on Israeli products.”
