Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-ICT adviser, has officially obtained US citizenship, marking a significant shift in his personal and political identity.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, once a key figure in Bangladesh’s political sphere, has acquired citizenship of the United States. Sources confirmed that he took the oath of allegiance last Saturday at a US Citizenship Center in Washington, DC.

Joy, living in the United States following mass protests and political unrest in Bangladesh, participated in the naturalization ceremony alongside 21 other individuals from various countries. Among the new citizens, three were originally from Bangladesh, including Joy himself.

He reportedly took the oath as the second individual after Bangladesh was called. Following the ceremony, Joy received his citizenship certificate and applied for a US passport.

Interestingly, just days before the event, on April 24, Joy had claimed in a Facebook post that he held no foreign passport and still used a green Bangladeshi one. He emphasized that his primary identity remained tied to Bangladesh despite having permanent residency in the US.

Joy’s shift in citizenship comes at a time of political tension, raising questions about his future role in Bangladeshi politics and his connection to the country he once served in an advisory capacity.
