Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s advisor, Salman F. Rahman, allegedly plotted against the interim government while in jail and urged others to stay “prepared” in line with the leader’s instructions, according to recent statements made in court.
On Monday, Salman F. Rahman, along with 10 others, was brought to court from prison in connection with various murder and attempted murder cases related to the anti-inequality student movement. During the court proceedings, Rahman was seen conversing with his lawyers and inquired about the current political situation in the country.
While awaiting the hearing, Rahman asked his lawyers, “What’s the news about the workers? What are they doing? The government has dismissed 40,000 workers from my company. Just 10,000 workers protesting is enough, right? I wanted the company to run, but look at the state of the country.”
Rahman was also informed by his lawyers about incidents involving attacks on teachers and student clashes, to which he responded with a smirk, asking, “What message did the leader give?” When his lawyers did not respond, Rahman reportedly insisted, “According to the leader’s message, everyone must stay ready.”
Further, when asked by a journalist about his conditions in jail, Rahman expressed dissatisfaction, claiming he wasn’t being provided proper meals or allowed to speak to his family on the phone. He also stated that he was sleeping on the floor and had not been given a Quran or prayer mat.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that in another significant development, the police have been granted permission to interrogate Salman F. Rahman for three days in relation to the murder case filed in the capital’s Jatrabari area, connected to the anti discrimination movement.
