Saraswati Puja, worshiping the Goddess of knowledge, music, art and culture, is being observed across Bangladesh on Monday. The festival, which falls on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the Bengali month of Maagh, marks the birth of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom, learning, and the arts.
Hindu devotees, particularly students, honor the occasion with special prayers and offerings in temples and educational institutions throughout the country. Toddlers are usually given a slate and chalk to scribble with on the auspicious day.
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent reports that as part of the celebrations, temples and educational institutions adorn with colorful decorations, and devotees offer prayers, flowers, and sweets to seek the Goddess’s blessings for wisdom, learning, and prosperity.
