The display of satellite pay-channels without clean feed will be halted in the country, as per a directive from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), with actions expected by March 29.

In a recent official communication signed by Mohammad Hasibul Kabir, Deputy Director of BTRC’s Enforcement and Inspection Division, the commission confirmed that certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been displaying foreign satellite channels without proper authorization. These ISPs have been using unauthorized technology to pirate channels and broadcast them without clean feed to households, violating national broadcasting standards.

The letter stated that these ISPs have been showing pay-channels without clean feed, causing a reduction in the number of foreign channels available under the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited’s service. Furthermore, some digital platforms have also been involved in similar activities, which violates the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act of 2001 and ISP guidelines.

BTRC has called for immediate corrective actions to be taken by the relevant stakeholders, including ISPs, within ten working days (by March 29). The commission’s letter also clarified that failure to comply would be considered a breach of ISP guidelines and the relevant legal framework.

Liberty News’ correspondent states that the BTRC’s order aims to prevent pirated content from being broadcasted and to ensure compliance with local regulations, ensuring that foreign content aired in Bangladesh is appropriately filtered for the audience.
