Bangladesh have secured a spot in the Women’s ODI World Cup following Scotland’s loss to Ireland, rendering today’s clash against Pakistan pressure-free.

Before taking on Pakistan in Lahore, Bangladesh were waiting on the result of the Scotland-Ireland match. With Scotland’s defeat, Bangladesh became the second team after Pakistan to qualify for the World Cup.

While West Indies are mathematically still in contention, their poor net run rate makes qualification nearly impossible. Even with a win against Thailand, they would tie on points with Bangladesh but lag far behind in NRR (+1.033 vs. -0.283).

Having already qualified, Nigar Sultana Joty’s side can now play freely against the hosts. In past encounters, both sides share seven wins each in 15 ODIs, but Bangladesh won their latest clash in 2023 by a convincing 7-wicket margin.

A win today could see Bangladesh top the table on net run rate, capping off a dominant group stage performance.
