Employees of the Bangladesh Secretariat staged a demonstration on Sunday, demanding the withdrawal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, branding it a “black law.”

The protest, organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Employees Unity Forum, began around 11 AM at Badamtola within the Secretariat premises. Led by co-chairman Nurul Islam, staff members marched in procession and chanted slogans such as “Illegal black law should be banned” and “We will not accept that black law.”

The demonstrators allege that the ordinance undermines workers’ rights and increases bureaucratic control without accountability.

Following the rally, a delegation of the protestors submitted a memorandum to Food Adviser R Imam Majumder, seeking immediate repeal of the ordinance. The protesters warned that they would intensify their movement if their demands are not met.

Security at the Secretariat was visibly tightened during the protest, though the demonstration remained peaceful.
