A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of a sedition case filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court for trial.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jennifer Zerin passed the order after completing the necessary procedures.
According to case documents, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Enamul Haque filed the case on 27 March against 73 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on charges of sedition, and submitted a charge sheet on 30 July naming 286 individuals as accused.
On 14 October, the court ordered the publication of notices in newspapers for 256 absconding accused — including Sheikh Hasina — to appear before the court.
On 19 December last year, Sheikh Hasina and several others joined a Zoom meeting of the “Joy Bangla Brigade,” during which she allegedly delivered anti-state statements and instructed her followers to overthrow the current interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus.
