Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vukevic resigned in the face of student protests. He announced his resignation on Tuesday (January 28). According to reports from several international news outlets, students in the country blocked a major road in the capital, Belgrade, on Monday. Farmers also joined the protests. After the roadblock in the capital, pressure on the Prime Minister to resign increased.

On November 15, a roof collapsed at a railway station in the city of Novi Sad, killing 15 people. Following this incident, students began protesting, accusing corruption as the cause. They claimed that if there had been no corruption during the construction of the station, so many lives would not have been lost.

As the protests intensified, on Monday, President Aleksandar Vucic announced that he would hold talks with the demonstrators and make significant changes within the government. On that day, students blocked the Autokomanda Junction, which connects the central area of the capital. This caused the capital city to come to a standstill.

Liberty News international correspondent reports that after the protests began in November, incidents of attacks on students occurred daily. However, rather than being suppressed, the movement grew and eventually spread to over a hundred cities. One by one, officials from the judiciary, teachers, businessmen, and ordinary people began showing their support for the protests.
