The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a firm stance on fixing issues in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Following allegations of match-fixing in several matches, the BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit have jointly launched an investigation. Reports suggest that BCB President Faruq Ahmed is also deeply frustrated with the situation.
It has been revealed that multiple players from various BPL teams are suspected of being involved in match-fixing. Since these allegations surfaced, both the BCB and ACU have been actively working on the matter. The ACU has reportedly warned the suspected players and instructed them not to leave the country.
Ryan Azad, the head of BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit, addressed the issue directly on social media. On his verified Facebook page, he cited Article 4 of the ICC’s Global Anti-Corruption Code, stating, “If the suspicious information revealed in the media or other sources aligns with our initial investigation, or if new evidence is found, we will request the involved individuals not to leave the country until the investigation is complete. This is mandatory under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.”
He further wrote, “It is crucial for players, match officials, and media personnel to adhere to specific rules. ACU has ensured that those under suspicion will be prohibited from traveling abroad until proper hearings are conducted.”
One of the players in focus due to these fixing allegations is Enamul Haque Bijoy, who led Durbar Rajshahi in seven matches. He was removed from captaincy midway through the tournament, with the team management stating that it was to allow him to focus more on his batting.
However, BCB sources indicate that suspicion has arisen around Bijoy, making him a potential subject of the fixing investigation. Alongside Bijoy, several other players in the BPL are reportedly under ACU’s watch.
According to Liberty News’ sports correspondent, the ACU plans to summon the suspected players for hearings after the BPL concludes. A senior BCB official stated, “This time we will not tolerate any negligence. Strict action will be taken against those who are attempting to tarnish the image of cricket.”
