In the past two days, several migrant bodies have been recovered from a coastal shore along the Mediterranean in eastern Libya, according to the Bangladesh Embassy. While there are concerns that some may be Bangladeshi citizens, authorities have not yet confirmed this. The Bangladesh Embassy has sent officials to gather more information.
Yesterday, the Bangladesh Embassy posted this information on their official page. They also requested assistance for any details regarding Bangladeshi citizens who may have been dead, injured, or affected by the incident.
The post from the embassy states, “It is with deep sadness that we inform you that several migrant bodies have been recovered from the coastal shore of Brega in eastern Libya over the past two days, as confirmed by various sources. According to local rescue authorities, these bodies washed up on the shore after a boat carrying migrants sank in the Mediterranean.”
In light of this, the embassy has requested anyone with information regarding the deceased, injured, or affected Bangladeshi citizens to come forward. Information can be provided through a Facebook comment or by contacting the embassy’s official mobile numbers: +218916994202 and +218916994207.
Liberty News’ National Affairs correspondent reports that the Bangladesh Embassy has already arranged to send a team to the site to collect detailed information about the victims of the boat sinking and to take necessary actions.
