Registered job seekers and recommended primary school teachers of the Teacher Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) have blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital.

At around 1:20 PM today (Monday), they blocked the road, causing all types of traffic movement to come to a halt.

Around 1:30 PM, it was observed that—on the left side of the Shahbagh intersection, recommended assistant teachers for primary schools were positioned, while on the right side, registered job seekers of the NTRCA were stationed. Police personnel were positioned around the area. Meanwhile, a water cannon and an APC were placed beneath the Shahbagh Metro station.

The convener of the NTRCA Registered Job Seeker Teachers’ Council, GM Yasin, said that although NTRCA has recommended 17 recruitment exams so far, only 5 appointments have been made through public notices. As a result, around 12-13 thousand qualified teachers have faced discrimination. Many registered teachers, despite passing the exams multiple times, have not received job recommendations. Meanwhile, some individuals have been appointed without even applying.

Liberty News’ national correspondent reports that primary school job seekers are saying, “The verdict that has canceled our appointments is discriminatory. This government itself recommended us for the appointments, but now our recruitment has been canceled. This is betrayal towards us. We demand that this verdict be canceled quickly, and our appointments be finalized.”
