Bangladesh is heading to the Champions Trophy with one clear goal – to become champions. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto revealed the team’s ambitions ahead of their departure tomorrow.
Bangladesh reached the semi-finals in the last edition of the Champions Trophy, marking their best performance in the tournament so far. This time, they aim to go a step further and clinch the title. Speaking at a press conference at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto confidently stated, “We are going with the aim of becoming champions.”
Shanto is unfazed by the pressure of this new mission. Staying calm and composed, he said, “I don’t feel any extra pressure. All eight teams deserve to be champions. I believe our team has that capability. No one will feel any additional pressure. Everyone truly wants this and believes in their abilities.”
The captain remains optimistic about achieving their goal, stating, “We don’t know what’s written in our destiny by Allah. But we are working hard with honesty and sincerity. We all believe we can reach our target.”
Reflecting on their semi-final finish in the previous tournament, Shanto finds motivation from that memorable run. “Last time in the Champions Trophy, we made it to the semi-finals. It was a good memory, and it will certainly inspire us this time,” he shared.
When asked about missing star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Shanto admitted, “Yes, of course, we will miss him.”
Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that with determination and belief, Bangladesh is set to embark on its Champions Trophy journey, eyeing the ultimate glory.
