Shawwal moon sighted, Eid is on Monday

As the moon of Shawwal has been sighted, Muslims will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday. This decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee on Sunday, March 30, after the Maghrib prayer, at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the Islamic Foundation’s meeting hall.

The meeting was chaired by Dr AFM Khalid Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. During the meeting, information was reviewed regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon for the year 1446 of the Hijri calendar, gathered from all district administrations, the Islamic Foundation’s 64 district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization.

It was concluded that the moon of Shawwal was sighted in Bangladesh’s sky on Sunday evening. The month of Shawwal will begin from Monday, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated nationwide on Monday, 1 Shawwal.

Liberty News’ national correspondent reports that meanwhile, with the sighting of the moon on Sunday evening, the month-long period of fasting and devotion has come to an end. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus have sent separate messages wishing the people of the country a joyful Eid.
