A tribunal has ordered former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to appear in court following a controversial statement allegedly suggesting she had a license to kill 227 individuals.

The International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday morning directed Sheikh Hasina, along with another individual, to be present in court in connection with a statement that sparked widespread concern. The remark—”I got a license to kill 227 people”—has drawn sharp criticism, prompting legal action over its implications.

The tribunal instructed that an official notice be issued, summoning both parties. According to the order, Sheikh Hasina is to appear within one week of the notice being made public.

The development has triggered a fresh wave of debate in political and legal circles regarding accountability and the boundaries of political rhetoric. The court’s move underscores a growing emphasis on scrutinizing past remarks made by public figures, especially when they pertain to serious allegations like extrajudicial killings.

Further proceedings are expected to determine whether formal charges will follow.
