Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons acknowledged a difficult outing for his side on day two of the second Test against Sri Lanka, with the hosts firmly taking control at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

Reflecting on the match situation, Simmons said, “The wicket got a lot easier. It was a good day for batting, and we struggled to take wickets. It was tough for the bowlers.”

The Bangladesh attack toiled throughout the day as Sri Lanka’s batters capitalised on improved pitch conditions. Simmons noted the contrast in behaviour compared to day one. “Yesterday it was a bit sticky and two-paced, but today the pitch settled, and there wasn’t as much turn,” he said.

The head coach also lamented his team’s first-innings batting display. “We missed a trick by not building partnerships. That left us with only a few wickets in hand today, and it cost us,” he explained.

Despite a slow start, Simmons credited bowlers Hasan Mahmud Rana and Ebadot Hossain for their late efforts. “They didn’t start well but came back strongly in the final spells, especially Rana,” he added.

Looking ahead, Simmons urged his team to take lessons from Sri Lanka’s batting performance and show greater discipline on day three. “We must come back tomorrow, start in better areas, and look to post big runs in the second innings,” he said.
