Six Raipura youths missing in Mediterranean boat tragedy

Six young men from Raipura, Narsingdi, have gone missing after the boat they were traveling in capsized while attempting to reach Italy from Libya. Their families are anxiously awaiting news of their fate.

Six youths from Raipura, Narsingdi, have disappeared after a boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea on January 25, while they were among 45 passengers attempting to reach Italy from Libya. The missing individuals are: Jewel, Ashik, Sayem, Mostak, Rakib, and Imran, hailing from various areas of the district.

The families of the missing are in distress, as there has been no news of their whereabouts for over a week. They had traveled via Libya with the help of brokers Toffajjal and Kabir, who facilitated their journey for a fee. Despite efforts to contact the brokers, both phone numbers have been unreachable.

According to the Libyan embassy, several bodies of immigrants have been recovered along the eastern Libyan coast, but the families have yet to confirm if any of the missing youths are among them.

Liberty News’ local correspondent state that, local authorities, including the Raipura Upazila Executive Officer, are investigating the incident and have vowed to take legal action against those involved in human trafficking. The families have also called for support from the Libyan Bangladesh embassy and other organizations to locate their loved ones.
