Sohan shines as Bangladesh Tigers level T20 warm-up series

Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan hit a blistering half-century as Bangladesh Tigers bounced back to defeat the Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team by 35 runs in the second T20 warm-up match at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Tigers skipper Mahidul Islam Ankon opted to bat first. However, the top order faltered early, with both Saif Hassan (2 off 4) and Ankon (4 off 8) falling cheaply.

It was then up to the experienced trio of Mohammad Naim Sheikh, Afif Hossain, and Nurul Hasan Sohan to steady the ship. Naim laid the foundation with a composed 41 off 32 deliveries, before Afif Hossain remained unbeaten on 51 off 40 balls. Sohan was the standout performer, hammering a fluent 58 off just 36 balls to power the Tigers to a competitive total of 168 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, the HP team never quite found their rhythm. Despite a fighting 41 from opener Mahfuzur Robin, the lack of support from the other end proved costly. The Tigers’ spinners took control of the game, led by Mahfuzur Rabbi who returned impressive figures of 3 for 23. Rakibul Hasan and Saif Hassan chipped in with two wickets each, as the HP side was restricted to 133 for 9, falling well short of the target.

With this win, the Bangladesh Tigers leveled the series, having lost the opening game by 22 runs at the same venue on Thursday.
