The BCS (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors Forum has observed a strike demanding two issues. However, the organization has exempted emergency department services from this program.
As per the program, doctors will observe a two-hour strike at government hospitals every day for three consecutive days, starting from 10 AM on Saturday. If their demands are not met, they have announced an indefinite full-day strike starting Tuesday.
On Saturday morning, doctors were seen protesting in front of the Director’s Office at Dhaka Medical College.
BCS (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors Forum’s General Secretary, Dr. Mohammad Bashir Uddin, said that they had a meeting on Friday night with the Chief Adviser’s special assistant, Dr. Sayidur Rahman, regarding their demands. He assured them that their demands would be fulfilled.
Dr. Bashir Uddin, the doctors’ leader, stated that the strike would continue on Sunday at all hospitals, and they would hold a position in front of Dhaka Medical College.
The demands of the Specialist Doctors Forum include the improvement of medical education standards, the global recognition of the MBBS degree. They demand swift and retroactive promotions for all eligible specialist doctors, the elimination of intra- and inter-cadre discrimination, the guarantee of fair dues by promoting qualified third-grade doctors to the second and first grades after a certain period.
