A Sramik Dal leader was shot to death by unidentified assailants in Saraf Bhata union under South Rangunia in Chattogram.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 42, son of Nazer Ahmed from Jilani Madrasa area in West Saraf Bhata. He was the vice-president of the Saraf Bhata Union unit of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal.
The incident took place on Thursday night (13 November) in the Bulainner Bari Tek area of Ward No. 6 of the union.
According to local sources, Mannan was travelling by motorcycle through East Saraf Bhata in the evening when some unidentified gunmen opened fire at close range. He collapsed on the spot.
Locals rushed him to Rangunia Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctors pronounced him dead.
On information, Rangunia police visited the spot and later additional police were deployed in the surrounding areas to prevent further unrest.
Rangunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selim Sabbir said police recovered the body shortly after the incident. “Initial findings suggest the murder stemmed from previous enmity. We are investigating and will bring those responsible to justice,” he stated.
Since the political upheaval of 5 August, at least 17 people have been killed across the region amid escalating political rivalry, turf battles, and entrenched social and family feuds.
