Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who made headlines last season with a record-breaking IPL deal, has now found himself on an embarrassing list after conceding 30 runs in a single over for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL season.

Mitchell Starc’s rollercoaster IPL journey took another dip on Thursday, as he conceded 30 runs in one over during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although Starc was picked by Delhi Capitals this season for ₹13 crore less than his previous ₹24.75 crore price tag with Kolkata Knight Riders, his performance has been inconsistent.

Despite claiming nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul in his first three matches, the left-arm pacer struggled in this encounter. In his third over of the innings, RCB’s Phil Salt hammered two sixes and three fours off Starc, while a further four came via a leg bye, resulting in 30 runs in the over. This makes Starc only the second Delhi bowler to concede 30 or more runs in a single over in IPL history.

He bowled three overs in total, giving away 35 runs without taking a wicket. Interestingly, in his other two overs, Starc conceded just 5 runs, showing how one poor over marred an otherwise tidy spell.

Previously, the unwanted record for the most expensive over by a Delhi bowler belonged to Anrich Nortje, who conceded 32 runs in one over in the last IPL season. However, the all-time IPL record for most runs conceded in an over is 37, jointly held by Prasanth Parameswaran (2011, against Chris Gayle) and Harshal Patel (2021, against Ravindra Jadeja).

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that despite the over, Delhi managed a comfortable win, chasing down RCB’s 163 with 13 balls and 6 wickets in hand. KL Rahul scored a blistering 93 off 53 balls, while Tristan Stubbs added an unbeaten 38 off 23 to seal the victory.
