US telecom giant Starlink has officially registered with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), marking a significant step toward launching its services in the country. The next and final step for Starlink is obtaining a Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) license to begin operations.
At a press conference held on Sunday at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, BIDA’s Executive Chairman, Chaudhury Ashiq Mahmood Bin Harun, confirmed the development.
He stated, “The four-day investment summit kicking off on April 9 in Dhaka will be powered by Starlink devices. Starlink will provide internet services at Hotel InterContinental, and live programs from the summit will be streamed via Starlink.”
“Attendees will also be able to connect their personal devices to the Starlink network and experience the service firsthand,” he added.
On Starlink’s entry into the Bangladeshi market, Ashiq Mahmood said, “They have completed BIDA registration. The next step is the NGSO license, which they may apply for today. We will work to fast-track the license approval.”
“Once they receive the license, Starlink will be able to launch commercial operations immediately. The government had committed to enabling their launch within 90 days of approval. Once the license is granted, it’s ready to go,” he stated.
