A young student of an engineering college at Mymensingh has committed suicide, leaving behind a note in which he blamed the country’s education system for his death.

The deceased, Dhrubajit Karmakar, 22, third-year student of Mymensingh Engineering College and son of Monotosh Karmakar and Supta Karmakar. He was a Computer Science and Engineering student in his sixth semester and hailed from Bijoypur village in Phulgazi upazila of Feni district.

He was found dead in Room 307 of Amar Ekushey Hall around 1:00 PM on Sunday.

In a handwritten suicide note found in his personal diary, Dhrubajit wrote: “Sorry, Ma and Baba. I am Dhrubajit, and I apologize to everyone. The banking card’s PIN is (…….), please give the money to Ma. I hold the education system of Bangladesh responsible for my death. Next time, I’ll study Pharmacy. The pressure was unbearable for me. Goodbye. Hare Krishna.”

The event occurred shortly after Dhrubajit was reportedly caught cheating during an examination. He was removed from the examination hall by invigilators. Within an hour, he returned to his dorm room and took his own life by hanging himself with a towel from the ceiling fan.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Principal of Mymensingh Engineering College, said, “Today was his exam. He was caught with unauthorized material and was asked to leave the exam hall. Shortly afterward, he was found dead in his room. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

Dr. Rahman added, “Dhrubajit had been showing signs of emotional distress in recent days. Being caught cheating may have pushed him further into despair. His suicide note confirms he was deeply troubled. This is an extremely tragic and unfortunate incident. His family has been notified.”

According to his classmates, Dhrubajit pleaded with teachers not to expel him and broke down in tears after being caught. Fearing disciplinary action, he returned to his dorm room while others remained in the exam hall.

Kotwali Model Police Station inspector Sajib Kumar Barai stated, “We received information and dispatched police immediately. The body has been taken to the hospital morgue, and legal proceedings are underway.”
