Students of Government Titumir College have blocked the railway track at Mohakhali in the capital, demanding university status. As a result, train services on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka section have been suspended since 3:40 PM on Monday (February 3).

The temporary suspension of train services was confirmed to Liberty News by the Station Master of Dhaka Railway Station, Mohammad Anwar Hossain. He mentioned that train services on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka section are currently halted.

Meanwhile, there are still 18 intercity trains scheduled to depart from Dhaka today, with 17 of them likely to experience delays, according to station sources.

Due to a railway blockade by students of government Titumir College in the capital’s Mohakhali area, several trains from Dhaka may experience delays. The blockade began at 3:40 PM on Monday, February 3, and has halted train services on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka section. As a result, 17 of the 18 scheduled intercity trains are expected to be delayed. These trains include the Sirajganj Express, Subarna Express, Jamuna Express, Chilahati Express, Brahmaputra Express, and others serving destinations like Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Sylhet. However, the Benapole Express is likely to avoid delays as it will take the Padma Bridge route. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates regarding their train schedules to avoid inconvenience.

Liberty News local correspondent reports that at around 3:40 PM, students blocked the railway track with a procession. In response, the railway workers on site immediately waved red flags and advanced along the railway track. As a result, the driver of the Upakul Express saw the red flag, slowed the train, and was able to stop it near the Mahakhali Railway Gate.

Earlier, the Upakul Express train, which had departed from Dhaka, was turned back from Mahakhali. The train’s locomotive master, Latif, stated, “We immediately informed the higher authorities about the incident of the train being stopped. They instructed us to reverse the train. Accordingly, the train is now being reversed. It will likely be stationed at Tejgaon Railway Station, although I am not certain. I will stop wherever I receive the signal.”
