The fire which broke out at the Teisher Chila-Shaplar bill area of the Sundarbans’ Eastern Forest Division Chadpai Range Dhansagor Station was brought under control on Tuesday morning after nearly 48 hours of firefighting efforts.
Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), Forest Department, and volunteers have started to comb the area for more smoke or fire. After examining the ground level, drones will be employed to check for more fire.
Khulna FSCD Senior Station Officer Ariful Haque told the Daily Samakal that water was sprayed on the area till 3:30am. There is no trace of fire anywhere in the forest now.
Previously, a fire broke out in the Kolomteji Forest Patrol Outpost area on Saturday. After dousing that fire, another fire was found in the Teisher Chila-Shaplar bill area and firefighting activities started anew.
Liberty News’ local correspondent that there was no clear statement from the Forest Department regarding the damage. However, locals have said around 10 acres of forest may have burnt down.
