Railway Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan has called on the railway running staff to end their strike. He stated that the Ministry of Railways has nothing at hand, and whatever needs to be done must be carried out by the ministry. Discussions are ongoing, and a solution will be found.
He made this statement while speaking to reporters at the Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Tuesday morning (January 28).
Earlier, he arrived at Kamalapur Railway Station around 10 AM. He was accompanied by Railway Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam, Railway Dhaka Division Manager Mohammad Mohiuddin Arif, BRTC Chairman Tajul Islam, and several other officials.
The Railway Advisor stated that there may be demands, but it is unfortunate to hold passengers hostage by halting trains as a form of protest.
Liberty News national correspondent reports that the running staff of Bangladesh Railways went on strike due to unresolved issues regarding the addition of running allowances to the base salary, along with pension and gratuity benefits. As part of the strike, the running staff did not board scheduled trains after midnight on Monday. As a result, no trains departed from starting stations, leading to a nationwide halt in train operations. The running staff includes train drivers, guards, and ticket checkers.
