Tamim Iqbal, who led Fortune Barishal to a second consecutive BPL title with a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Chattogram Kings, received a special farewell honor from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), marking a memorable end to his international career.
The day was particularly emotional for Tamim Iqbal, who was presented with a tribute by the BCB following the BPL final. Having played his last international match for Bangladesh in September 2023, Tamim had earlier announced that he would not return to international cricket, making the farewell ceremony even more significant.
Expressing his gratitude, Tamim told the media, “First of all, I thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to retire on such a high note, having won a trophy. I couldn’t have asked for more. I would like to thank the BCB for organizing this, as they didn’t have to, but still took the step. I’ve had a 17-year career, and there’s nothing more to say.”
Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that reflecting on the team’s performance, Tamim shared, “This is very special. Throughout the tournament, we played dominant cricket. Every player who joined the team contributed and performed. Our franchise owner has been great, giving me the freedom to lead. This has helped create a positive atmosphere within the team, which contributed to our success on the field.”
