Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal is recovering well after suffering a heart attack during a match on Monday. Doctors report his condition is improving, and he is now able to walk and engage in brief conversations.
Tamim Iqbal’s health has shown significant improvement after he was rushed to the hospital following a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on March 24. The 34-year-old cricketer was playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP when he collapsed on the field.
Due to his critical condition, a helicopter was initially dispatched to transport him, but he was taken to the nearby KPJ Specialized Hospital for immediate treatment. There, Tamim underwent angiogram, angioplasty, and stent placement. His medical team acted quickly, saving him from further complications, with the match referee, Devbrata Pal, signing the consent for surgery in the absence of Tamim’s family.
Now, Tamim is in stable condition and has expressed feeling better, saying, “I feel better than before” to his doctors. He is currently being monitored in the hospital’s cardiac care unit and has been moved to a cabin for a brief period before returning to intensive care. Doctors have advised that he will need to stay under observation for the next 48 hours.
Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that Tamim’s recovery is a relief to both his family and the entire sports community, especially as the news of his heart attack had caused great concern. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Faruk Ahmed, along with director Nazmul Abedin Fahim, visited the hospital to show their support. Tamim is expected to undergo more tests today, and if all goes well, he may be shifted to Evercare Hospital later in the evening.
