Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has called for increased investment in cricket for players with physical disabilities, insisting they deserve equal recognition and facilities as other national representatives.

Tamim made the remarks on Tuesday while attending the Youth Festival Physically Challenged Cricket Trial and Selection Camp-2025 at the Bashundhara Sports City indoor facility, an event organised by the National Paralympic Committee of Bangladesh.

“We often talk about the need for more investment in cricket. I believe that investment should also come here,” Tamim said, stressing that anyone who represents Bangladesh in cricket should carry only one identity — that of a cricketer.

Rejecting labels such as “physically challenged,” Tamim argued that such terms go against the principle of equality. “If we truly believe in equality, then there should be no tagging. They should only be called cricketers, nothing else,” he said.

Highlighting their dedication, Tamim noted that these players compete purely out of passion, without the financial benefits or fame that come with professional cricket. “If the board and government cannot provide them with the best facilities, then the claim that Bangladesh is a sports-loving nation falls short,” he remarked.
