BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has remarked that it was the bloodstained path of February 21st that led the people of this country to liberation. He stated, “The 21st of February is an unforgettable chapter in our national life. I deeply honor all the martyrs on this day. It is through their supreme sacrifice that the first step of our national liberation movement was written.”
He made these comments in a message on Thursday (February 20) on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.
Tarique Rahman emphasized, “Although the country is independent, various hegemonic forces continue to conspire to attack our language and culture, trying to suppress us so that we cannot stand tall in the global community. However, the people of this country have always resisted tyranny and the conspiracies of both local and foreign forces with indomitable courage. We must work together to strengthen and make permanent justice, human equality, and true democracy so that no one can imprison our democracy in harsh shackles again. Democratic forces who believe in independence and sovereignty must remain vigilant at all times. The indomitable spirit of the 21st of February will inspire us in this endeavor.”
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that the Acting Chairman of BNP added, “The history and heritage of the Bangladeshi nation, and the rise of language consciousness, stem from the search for the roots of our identity. The language movement of Bangladesh sparked our nationalism and unity. Our February 21st has now gained international recognition as Mother Language Day, and it has become known worldwide as a movement to preserve the dignity of mother languages. On this great day, I wish success to the various programs organized by social, cultural, and political organizations.”
