There is no bar for BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman to return to Bangladesh, said Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, home affairs adviser to the interim government. He stated that Tarique is free to come back anytime if he wishes.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday (June 12) after visiting Salna Highway Police Station in Gazipur, the adviser also addressed the issue of illegal push-ins by India. He said individuals being pushed in are not entering through proper channels, and this inhumane act has been reported to the Indian High Commission.

Letters have also been sent through the foreign ministry requesting proper procedures if the returnees are indeed Bangladeshi citizens.

Regarding Tarique Rahman’s return, the adviser clearly stated, “There is no restriction. He can return whenever he wants.”

Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir mentioned that Tarique will surely return to the country soon, though he did not give a specific timeline.

Meanwhile, a meeting between interim government chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman is scheduled to take place in London on Friday from 9 AM to 11 AM local time.
