The tragic death of eight-year-old Achia has left the entire nation in shock and shame, said BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He stated that such incidents are unacceptable and reflect a severe moral crisis in society.
In a statement sent to the media by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday midnight, Tarique Rahman expressed deep condemnation, protest, and grief over Achia’s death.
Achia, an eight-year-old victim of sexual violence in Magura, had been battling for life at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for several days. She succumbed to her injuries on Thursday at 1 PM.
Tarique Rahman said, “This brutal incident has deeply pained me, just as it has shaken the entire nation. The news of her death has silenced the country in shock, and people from cities to villages are protesting this horrific crime.”
He pointed out that law enforcement failures and delayed justice allow perpetrators to evade punishment, leading to the recurrence of such crimes. He further accused the authorities of negligence in ensuring the safety and dignity of women and children.
Rahman urged the government to take strict action against such crimes and called for an extensive child protection system to safeguard young girls from violence. He also demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators to prevent such incidents in the future.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that in his statement, Tarique Rahman prayed for Achia’s departed soul and expressed his deepest condolences to her grieving family.
