Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Ghalib’s court today issued the order in response to two separate applications by the ACC. Earlier, on January 8, the court ordered the seizure of income tax records of Benazir’s wife Zeeshan Mirza and younger daughter Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir.
On that day, the investigation officer of the two cases, Deputy Director of the Commission Hafizul Islam, applied for the seizure of their income tax records. At that time, ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmud Hossain Jahangir conducted the hearing. Later, after the hearing, the court ordered the seizure of their income tax records.
Earlier, on December 15, the ACC filed four cases against former IGP Benazir Ahmed and her wife and children. The charges in the cases are that Benazir acquired undeclared assets worth Tk 94.4 million and concealed information about assets worth Tk 26.2 million. His wife Zeeshan Mirza has acquired known undeclared assets worth Tk 316.9 million and concealed information worth Tk 161.1 million. Their eldest daughter Farhin Rishta binte Benazir has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 87.5 million and her second daughter Tahsin Raisa binte Benazir has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 55.9 million.
Liberty News has observed that this case has been ongoing for a while but all of the accused remain outside the country.
